Role vacancies: Referee Pathway Development Working Group

Volleyball England is seeking two or three people to join the Referee Pathway Development Working Group to help drive the implementation of a new Referee Pathway.

The group will report to the Ace Service Sub-group and be led by VE Strategic Manager Gillian Harrison. 

Evolving from Proposal 4 of the Referee Review, the group will be tasked to investigate the possibility of a two-tier Grade 4 structure, completely redesigning the referee pathway. 

Working alongside Nick Heckford (Indoor), Glynn Archibald (Sitting Volleyball) and Debra Smart (Beach Volleyball), the group will meet regularly over the next eight to 10 months to create the new pathway.  

Referee Development Pathway aims 

  • Create a Referee Development Pathway that prepares referees for the environment in which they work   
  • Provide learning and development opportunities at each stage of the Pathway; to aid progression and to maintain current Grade status  
  • Give referees greater control over their own development and progression   
  • Provide a route for accelerated progression for those able to commit to more games   
  • Increase the number of women and ethnic minority referees on the Pathway   
  • Have a highly skilled referee workforce of tutors, observers, coaches, and mentors who are confident and competent in their roles.

The ideal people will be collaborative, strategic thinkers, with knowledge of contemporary approaches to learning and development who understand refereeing, are willing to innovate and can inspire others to follow.
