Janet Inman and Vicky Palmer carry Queen's Baton as relay enters final stages

Super volleyball volunteer Janet Inman and Team England's Vicky Palmer have carried the Queen's Baton as it passes through England on the final stages of the Commonwealth relay.

Similar to the Olympic Torch Relay, the Queen's Baton Relay is a mammoth journey to all 72 Commonwealth nations prior to the Commonwealth Games. It began on 7th October 2021 at a special event at Buckingham Palace and will finish on 28th July when it is taken into the Alexander Stadium as part of the opening ceremony for Birmingham 2022.

Janet, Secretary of the Volleyball England Foundation, was a batonbearer in the historic city of Lincoln on Sunday, 10th July, while Vicky walked with the baton along Poole beach towards Bournemouth Pier on Monday, 4th July.

The baton later passed through Loughborough University on Monday, 11th July, where Spikey the volleyball mascot took part in a obstacle course race

Cardiff Beach Volleyball, which will be a training base for some of the teams at Birmingham, also welcomed the baton at the start of July during its route in Wales.

Batonbearers are people who:

  • Are always willing to take on a challenge and has a unique and inspiring story;
  • Have made a meaningful contribution to sport, education, the arts, culture, or charity;
  • Are a figure of inspiration that positively challenges others to achieve their best;
  • Have taken on a challenge or cause and made a positive impact within their community.
