Super League Opening Weekend in Kettering to launch season with a bang!

England Volleyball’s Super League launches its 2023-24 season with a bang on Saturday 14th October and Sunday 15th October when all 20 teams come together at one venue for a feast of Opening Weekend action.

All top-flight men’s and women’s teams, 10 of each, will converge on the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering to battle for early-season points.

The five men’s Super League fixtures will be staged on the Saturday, with the women’s matches to follow on the Sunday.

The action will get underway with last year’s runners-up, Richmond Docklands, taking on the Men’s Super League’s most northerly team in Team Sunderland.

Newcastle Staffs will then meet last season’s champions, the Durham Palatinates, before another north versus south clash will see Stockport play Malory Eagles.

Saturday’s action will be rounded off with Leeds Gorse going head-to-head with IBB Polonia and the University of Nottingham facing Essex Rebels.

As the women take centre stage on Sunday, newly-promoted Division One champions Coventry and Warwick Riga open the show as they play Malory Eagles UEL.

Cambridge ARU then take on last season’s champions Durham Palatinates (pictured, in purple kit) who lost just once in their title success, while Leeds Gorse line up against Sideout Polonia.

A second University of Nottingham versus Essex Rebels (pictured, in black kit) match will be the penultimate match of the Opening weekend, which will be rounded off by a meeting between Darkstar Derbyshire and London Lionhearts.

“We’re really excited to have all 20 Super League teams together under one roof on the same Opening Weekend to get the new season up and running,” said Volleyball England’s Strategic Manager, An Ace Service, Rob Payne.

“We want to take the Super League, the pinnacle of the indoor game in this country, to the next level and we believe this will be the first step in helping us to do that.”

“There are some really high-quality matches in store that Im sure people will be really looking forward to coming along to watch, particularly as it will be the first chance to catch some of the new signings teams will have made, and it is likely to be a great atmosphere.
